OPI Honk If You Love OPI NOTD

In my quest to keep remembering that September = fall colors, I tried out OPI Honk If You Love OPI from the Touring America collection.  Looking at the bottle, the color reminds me of grape juice concentrate- just the tiniest bit too red to be eggplant, but not quite dark enough for me to think of actual Concord grapes.  (Which are, by the way, something I’m really craving now…).  On the nail it comes out a shade darker, and a little less opaque.

Here’s a dry nail/bottle color comparison.

Both pictures are of two thin coats of polish.  Application was easy and I had no issues with VNL, unlike with some of the more recent OPI shades.  (Yes, I’m thinking of you, Texas collection.)     I am dreading taking this one off- I’m sure that I’ll have stained nails underneath this rich color.   I guess that just means I should give up and go dark, at least for the rest of the season.

Zoya Dannii Konadicure

I’ve been steering away from darker colors lately, mostly because of the inevitable staining that they leave behind on my nails.  But today the bf tossed me Zoya Dannii (ZP 537), telling me that it would be an interesting color under a white Konad design.  Intrigued, I decided to give it a try.  I can’t take credit for this manicure- the only part I did was the nail painting while the bf went stamp-happy, choosing Konad plates with a  floral/vine design.   (What can I say, we art majors tend to want to try any type of creative endeavor at least once.)  At the very least, this is proof that a first-time user of Konad can catch on pretty quickly.  🙂

This is two coats of Dannii and Konad plates m31 and m37, used with white Konad polish.

Nubar Baby Sprout from Spring Garden 2011

I’ll admit it:  I’ve always loved the color pink more than any other, and nail polish being no exception to that rule, my collection is heavily pink-based.  Lately, however, I’ve found myself strangely fixated on greens and blues.  When Chanel Jade and MAC Peppermint Patti were released, I wasn’t on board the mint polish wagon yet, which I sorely regret now.  Spring Garden 2011 was the second time I bought an entire Nubar collection, and I was especially tickled with the pale green, Baby Sprout.

Here is Baby Sprout, a creamy pale green that reminds me of pistachio ice cream and Iceberg lettuce.  I am really loving this color right now!  This is three coats.

I suppose I should be hitting my stash of autumn colors by now, but I just can’t seem to stop reaching for seasonally inappropriate pastels.  o_O

Red-tipped Newsprint Nails

I usually don’t like to wear red, white, and black- reminds me of that little jingle in elementary school:  Red, white, and blue make a monkey out of you.  Red, white, and black make the bogeyman attack.  And then there’s this little play-on-words riddle:  What’s black, white, and red (read) all over?  A newspaper.

I was inspired to try newsprint nails after seeing a few photos online, and wanting to tip them with a bold color,  found myself reaching for a bold red.   The only newspaper I had on hand was in Chinese- maybe not such a bad thing, because the one thing I don’t like about newsprint manis is that the print is always backwards.  With Chinese, it’s harder for me to tell, probably because I can’t read it very well… :X   Anyway, here are my results.

I used 3 thin coats of OPI Alpine Snow for a base color.  When dry, I put a couple drops of alcohol-based facial toner on my nail (I didn’t have rubbing alcohol on hand) and pressed nail-sized pieces of newsprint on top.  It looked a little faint, so I then cut out a few bolder headlines and pressed those on top.  It kind of goes without saying, but the firmer you press, the more ink transfer you will have.  I then tipped my nails with OPI Conquistadorable Color and finished with a coat of OPI Top Coat.

I wonder how comics or colored font would work?  Maybe I will have to experiment with that next time.

Zoya Rica

I tried one of my polishes from the Zoya Sunshine collection- they looked so cheerful and summery in the bottle, I just couldn’t resist.  I chose Rica.  No problems with application, but due to the sheerness I could still see a slight gradation in color due to my stained nails.  :X  This is three thin coats.

I only picked up four out of the six colors from the Sunshine collection.  Here they are with a couple older ones that also look like they could be part of the Sunshine family.
