Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday

We just had the Chuseok/Moon Festival holiday in Asia, so I tried to choose a festive nail.  And what polish could be more festive than Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday?  It’s almost impossible NOT to feel cheery looking at the multicolored glitter in a clear base.

This was three coats applied rather carefully.  It seems to take a little bit of strategic application to get the glitter to lay down evenly.

Here is a close-up shot.  I couldn’t stop looking at my nails, they were so sparkly and fun!

I bought this polish as a single, but I had to order the Get This Party Started trio which features Happy Birthday, Candy Shop (pink-based polish, same multicolored glitter), and Forget You (black-based polish, same glitter).  So now I have a spare of HB~ yay!  I bet a primary colored polish with HB on the tips would be very pretty, an idea for next time!

September: Teal Toes for Ovarian Cancer

After reading BeautyJudy’s post  on Teal Toes, I was inspired to pass the word on as well.  September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, and you can show your support by painting your toes teal.  It’s simple, it’s fun, and it’s a great cause.  For more information, go to the Teal Toes website , learn a few facts about ovarian cancer, paint your toes teal, and share your knowledge!

Here are a few teal polishes that I pulled from my collection.  Since it is September, I tried to choose darker, fall-worthy teals to share here.

Top (L-R): OPI Cuckoo for This Color, OPI Sonic Bloom, OPI Ski Teal We Drop, OPI Catch Me in Your Net, OPI Yodel Me On My Cell, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Lagoon, Misa Quirky Smile, Misa Krystal Water, Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe. Bottom (L-R): Nubar Disco Blue Glitter, Nubar Teal Glitter, China Glaze Custom Kicks, China Glaze Passion in the Pacific, China Glaze DV8, China Glaze Atlantis, Etude Dear Darling Nails Bling Bling in Bling Bling Blue, Orly Halley's Comet, SkinFood Pedicure Sparkle in Sparkle Cool Mint

I’ve also gotten a few requests for pedicure pictures, which I’m working on.   I’m quite hesitant to post pictures of my unattractive feet, but here’s a pic to prove I’m sporting teal toes as well.  I didn’t intend for this pic to end up in my journal- this is a beach shot from Shenzhen, where I just came back from.  I’m wearing Orly Halley’s Comet.

From tealtoes.org I learned that ovarian cancer symptoms appear early on, and can mimic irritable bowel syndrome: bloating, difficulty eating or feeling full, pelvic/abdominal pain, and frequent urination/urinary urgency.  Visit their website and get more facts!  Early detection can make a world of difference, so if you think you have any of these symptoms, ask your gynecologist!

The Face Shop FACE it Power Perfection BB Cream, SPF 37

“A total skin treatment BB cream reenergizing the skin through power lifting, power moisturization and power correcting effects.  Wrinkle improvement + whitening + sunscreen… with an airy touch formula, it adheres in a thin layer as light as air yet flawlessly covers skin blemishes for a lustrous, healthy skin appearance.”  So reads the promise on the box, but would it deliver?

Power Perfection Cream comes in two shades, #1 (lighter) and #2 (darker).  As with most BB creams,  both shades blend well so an exact match to your skin tone is less crucial.  I tend to use foundation very sparingly, choosing to err on the natural side rather than the overpainted- but in testing out this BB cream, I applied it a little more generously to see the effect.  I’m a MAC NW15/NC15 (depending on which product) so I chose to test out #1, and patted it on my T-zone, under my eyes, and blended well.  I noticed that the texture was a bit more fluid than other BB creams I have tried, so blending and absorption were quick and painless.

#1 and #2

The effect really was very natural, and made my skin look much healthier.  My skin tends to look greyish at times, especially in winter, and the Power Perfection warmed it up just enough to make a difference without looking fake.  I was also very impressed with how it thoroughly it covered up a small raised blemish I have without looking cakey or strange, delivering well on its “light as air” promise.

To summarize, I’m really pleased with this BB cream!  The high SPF is the icing on the cake.  I’m not sure yet about the anti-wrinkle and protective properties it offers- I would guess that takes more than one sampling  to see results.  But the texture and the coverage are just what I’m looking for this time of year when my skin starts to do crazy season-transitional things!

PS> A big thank you and love to my brother Keon for sending this to me!

Chanel Graphite

Seeing the new Chanel nail colors, I was pleasantly surprised at how dimensional and vibrant they seemed in person compared to the online pictures I’d seen. I wanted to grab all three, but settled on Graphite, since that was the one I’d originally come out for.

This is three light coats. Application was a dream, smooth and even, and the color is so unique- it almost reminds me of salt and pepper, with its unexpected warm (as in the tiniest-bit-golden) glow.

I just may have to go back for the other two now…

Zoya Dannii Konadicure

I’ve been steering away from darker colors lately, mostly because of the inevitable staining that they leave behind on my nails.  But today the bf tossed me Zoya Dannii (ZP 537), telling me that it would be an interesting color under a white Konad design.  Intrigued, I decided to give it a try.  I can’t take credit for this manicure- the only part I did was the nail painting while the bf went stamp-happy, choosing Konad plates with a  floral/vine design.   (What can I say, we art majors tend to want to try any type of creative endeavor at least once.)  At the very least, this is proof that a first-time user of Konad can catch on pretty quickly.  🙂

This is two coats of Dannii and Konad plates m31 and m37, used with white Konad polish.
